DOGUE DE BORDEAUX CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN
OPEN
SHOW
Saturday, 1st
November, 2008
It was
a great honour to be invited to judge at this historic event – the
first Open Show of the Dogue de Bordeaux Club of GB since the KC lifted
the breed from the Import Register. My thanks to the Officers and Committee
for allowing me the privilege of assessing so many quality exhibits and
to the exhibitors for receiving my decisions with such sporting and rousing
enthusiasm. I was impressed by the progress in the breed since I last
judged it three years ago. Movement has improved dramatically, probably
enhanced by greater strength overall in muscle tone and better defined
rear angulation. Mouths I found surprisingly good with wide underjaws
and correct dentition. It was encouraging to see so many young quality
bitches coming through as, ultimately, they are the future of the breed.
My BIS went to my BD, Graham’s Int/Ir CH Jerivindi Juno, with ResBIS
to my ResBD, Rainger’s Rhodonite Governor of Dogueland. BOS went
to Graham’s Jerivindi Venus Divine, ResBB to Johnson’s Tiawnee
Ice Maiden for Cascob and BPIS to Dunning’s Rozeldogue Party Piece.

Good head with clear eyes and good mouth. Moved easily.
3. Ramalingham’s
CASCOB KASABIAN
LIMIT
DOG (6, 2)
1. Rainger’s
RHODONITE GOVERNOR OF DOGUELAND. I really liked this dog. 2½ year
old male of terrific substance. Super front and feet, excellent construction.
Typical outline. Best mover of the day. Gave my BIS a good run for his
money - just lost out on
head type but when he challenged for ResBIS I could not deny him as he
thundered round the ring. A very nice dog indeed which I hope will achieve
the recognition he deserves. ResBD/ResBIS.
2. Iseton’s
BOBISO’S JOHNNY GRAND. Another male of excellent breed type. Has
the width in front but not the depth of 1. Expressive head with good mouth
and dentition. Typical outline. Moved easily.
3. Dunning’s
TIAWNEE ONE TO KEEP WITH CASCOB
OPEN
DOG (8, 2)
1. Graham’s
Int/Ir CH Jerivindi Juno. Full of character 3 year old male of superb
breed type. The strongest of heads of correct proportions, excellent mouth
and dentition. Super bone, good width and depth. Well muscled rear with
good angulation. Correct outline which he retained on the move, driving
from the rear with head in line with his body, giving typical movement.
Rich red coat presented in first class order completed the picture. A
well deserved BIS.
2. Burnikell,
Swainston & De Croos Ned/Swe/Int CH ENFERNO VAN DE PATERHOEK AT EMBEREZ.
Impressive male of 3½ years. Lovely head with good mouth and dentition.
Good bone and depth in front, good feet. Would like to see a little more
muscle definition behind but moved with ease. Not as typical in outline
as 1 but with a commanding ring presence. Expertly handled.
3. Dunnings
ROZELDOGUE TEMPLESON.
VETERAN
DOG (1)
1. Bicknell’s
Ned.CH. CASANOVA VON CANYAYA (Imp Deu). Lively 8½ year old in fine
fettle. Presented in good hard condition and as fit and active as any
of the youngsters, strutting his stuff in great style, well worthy of
his BV award.
MINOR
PUPPY BITCH (7, 2)
1. Dunning’S
ROZELDOGUE PARTY PIECE. Absolutely delightful baby of 7½ months
who never put a foot wrong all day. Deep red of excellent substance. Super
shoulder line and front. Gorgeous head and expression, good mouth. Moved
out very well. Not the biggest but all in proportion. BPB/BPIS.
2. Burnikell,
Swainson & De Croo’s TYRANNUS SKYJACKED BY EMBEREZ. Substantial
girl of 8 months. Another good young showgirl. Good bone, nice outline,
excellent front. Good expressive head with well set ears. Moved well.
3. Armstrong’s
CERISLER BELLA PRECIOUS ONE
PUPPY
BITCH (11, 1)
1. Tremain’s
NORTHWONDER NELLIE. Compact but substantial bitch of 9 months. Excellent
breed type. Good front and feet. Strong head. Moved very well. Very typical
all through. Headed a very strong class and pressed hard for BPB.
2. Calder’s
DELONI ALANI. 11 months girl of excellent breed type. Well proportioned
and expressive head. Good bone and front. Lost out on movement as she
persisted in pacing which her handler found difficult to correct. I’m
sure she will outgrow this when she gets into her stride as her construction
is good.
3. Cairn’s
CAIRNSHAW MOSCHINO
JUNIOR
BITCH (14, 4)
1. Colman’s
TYRANNUS TYLER. 17 months bitch of tremendous substance, heading a very
strong class. I placed her well in a Group when she was only 6 months
old and I’m pleased to see she has come on well. Gorgeous head and
expression. Typical outline, well muscled rear which she put to good use
on the move. Still has some maturing to do but, when finished, should
trouble the best. A very nice prospect indeed.
2. Quigley’s
LOCKERICE ZELDA VALLEYREN. Another quality bitch of 14 months. Excellent
breed type again. Not quite the substance of 1 but none the less for it.
Lovely head and expression. Good front and rear angulation giving typical
outline. Moved with ease.
3. Iseton’s
BOBISO QUEEN ELIZABETH
NOVICE
BITCH (7, 2)
1. Large’s
FABIAS LADY. Substantial girl, just out of Junior. Good bone and feet.
Nice expression. Moved very well.

Expressive head. Good shoulder line and outline.
3. Armstrong’s
CERISLER BELLA PRECIOUS ONE
POSTGRADUATE
BITCH (7, 5)
1. Iseton’s
BOBISO’S MISS MONICA. 27 months bitch of excellent breed type. Well
up to size with super head, good mouth and well set ears. Broad front,
good outline and angulation. Moved very well.
2. Fray’s
LIONDOR DANCING QUEEN. 19 months bitch at that ‘in between’
stage of development. Lively on the move. Needs to mature.
LIMIT
BITCH (7)
1. Dunning’s
LADY ABBEY AT ROZELDOGUE. 22 months bitch of excellent breed type. Good
mouth and dentition. Well off for bone, good shoulder line and angulation.
Very typical all through. Sound on the move.
2. Calder’s
EMBEREZ VOO DOO. Promising 17 months bitch of good breed type. Good bone
and width. Not as mature as 1 but should develop well. Moved with ease.
3. Johnson &
Foster’s GORDONGILL ZULU VIA CASCOB
OPEN
BITCH (9, 4)
1. Graham’s
JERIVINDI VENUS DIVINE. Super deep red 3 year old of excellent breed type.
Not exaggerated in any way. Lovely head of correct proportions, excellent
mouth and dentition. Good width and depth in front, good rear angulation
giving correct movement. A very typical overall picture. BB/BOS.
2. Johnson’s
TIAWNEE ICE MAIDEN FOR CASCOB. I loved this bitch’s substance and,
quite honestly, when I saw her come into the ring, I thought there wouldn’t
be anything to beat her. However, although I really couldn’t fault
her in overall construction and head properties, she just lacked the positive
movement of my winner on the day. I hesitate to say that places could
change on another day, as it’s such a time-worn cliché, but,
in this instance, it is true. ResBB.
